Organic Gifts: Grow Your Own Herbs and Give Herbal Teas

No Comments 10 June 2010

When it comes to organic gifts, you can make some interesting sets by growing your own herbs and giving a lovely mug with your home grown combinations inside. These herbs are a very thoughtful gift, as they can be used to combat a number of health problems and simply help you to feel refreshed. The best news is that many of these herbs are very easy to grow! Here are a few ideas for what herbs you should choose.

* Mint – There are a few different types of mint, but most are good in tea. Peppermint is a very popular option, though you could also try orange mint or pineapple mint. Mints are hardy and will spread if you let them. They are best grown in containers or planted in the ground in the middle of tall, bottomless containers. Tea is made from the leaves.

* Chamomile – This tea is renowned for how soothing it is, and can treat many health problems. The good news it’s easy to grow, but grows best in sunny and moist areas. Use the flowers for making tea.

* Lemon Balm – This is related to mint, and has a minty lemon flavour. It grows best in partial shade and dry soil, and the leaves are used to make tea.

* Coriander – This is also known as cilantro and is most popularly used for cooking. However, you can use it for a spicy, citrusy flavour tea. Grow it in the full sun or partial shade, and use the leaves for tea.

* Lavendar – This can help you unwind after a long day. It can help to calm as well as relieve tension headaches. Grow in full sun and drained sun, and use the buds for the tea.

* Violet – This tea is refreshing and a good source for vitamins A and C. It grows best in shade, and tea is made from dried leaves and flowers.

The good news is that just about anyone can give organic gifts by growing an herbal tea garden. Some of these will work indoors in containers, as long as you make sure they get enough sun.
